Their original location in McHenry, MS was founded by Phyllis’ mother Barbara back in 1984. Barbara’s husband once said, "You can’t make a living selling candy!" Well, as an independent and highly motivated business and family woman as well as mother, Barbara sought to prove him wrong! Originally built from restored pickle vats, this property includes the same trees that have been here for over 30 years.
Barbara originally sold just a few variations of flavored pecans, but soon she began to add more products along the way, including her famous fruit cakes! Around 2 years later, Barbara added home décor items to her store.
At The Pecan House, Barbara performed plenty of trial and error creations with her recipes, never using anything other than her own pecans. Today, Phyllis and her staff still hand-dip pecans like Barbara used to, and still use all of the original recipes Barbara created.
The husband and wife team took over the family business once they moved back to the Coast from Tennessee in 2000. Their new second location in Gulfport, MS was officially opened for business on January 29, 2015.
The Pecan House only uses the best pecans in our homemade candy and cakes. We have homemade gift baskets and tins to suit any special event or occasion, or just because it's Wednesday! We can even customize your gift creation for no extra charge!
The Pecan House is a family-owned local business that has been passed down for generations. We specialize in Mississippi-grown pecans and homemade pecan candies. Through our website, you will find for that special friend or relative a unique gift that is backed by over 70 years of experience. Our products are not machine produced. All of the work is hand done.
Currently, The Pecan House is still locally owned and operated by wife and husband team, Phyllis and Billy Shoemake. Their granddaughter Chelsey also works alongside them.
